Triboplastics are tribologically optimized material compounds and the basis of all igus® products and systems.
igus® engineers develop more than 100 new polymer compounds every year and analyze their tribological characteristics in the igus® R&D center in more than 7,000 tests. All results are placed into an extensive material database. Based on this data, it is possible to offer a precise prediction of the lifetime for an iglide® plastic plain bearing in almost any given application. This has fulfilled the dream of many an engineer: predictable plain bearings that require absolutely no lubrication.

To produce 1 liter of aluminum the energy from 15 liters of oil is necessary. 1 liter of steel requires 11 liters of oil. The production of 1 liter of plastic only needs an average of 1.8 - 2.3 liters oil.*
