Selective laser sintering (SLS) material: iglidur i6
The iglidur i6 material was designed for laser sintering and was especially developed for manufacturing worm wheels for the food &amp; packaging industry. The tests in the igus test laboratory showed a longer service life than for conventionally milled gears - e.g. POM. This significantly increases flexibility in the design of components, because the laser sintering process eliminates the need for tooling and therefore special parts can be manufactured efficiently with no minimum order quantity. Furthermore, iglidur i6 is ideal for snap-on connections due to the higher elongation at break.

When do I use it?

When a food grade material is required
For applications with sliding motion, especially for worm gears
If a white base material is required for subsequent colouring

When not to use it?

When an optically detectable material in blue colour is required (→ iglidur i6-BLUE)
For applications under water or with high humidity (→ iglidur i8-ESD)

iglidur M260 was specially developed for use in harsh environments. In addition, care was taken during development to be able to use the material particularly well for injection-molded thick-walled bearings. This makes iglidur M260 particularly suitable for applications in which thick-walled bushings are to be used or replaced that are also as robust as possible.



Specially developed for the food sector, iglidur® A230 is particularly suitable for machines and systems with food contact due to its optically easily detectable color, low moisture absorption and conformity according to FDA and EU10/2011 directive. 



iglidur® C | Free from PTFE and silicone, good abrasion resistance
iglidur® C was developed especially for applications where the use of PTFE and silicone is not possible. Such applications can be found in the electronics, tobacco and beverages industries, as well as many painting processes. Keywords like paint compatibility and silicone-free make it useful to study this material more closely.

iglidur H5 was developed especially for use in corrosive environments in which high edge pressures and impact loads also occur.

High abrasion resistance at low surface speeds 


Easy-to-process, abrasion-resistant filament - suitable for food contactiglidur i150 is characterised by high wear resistance, as the material is enriched with solid lubricants. It can be processed just as easily as standard PLA and PETG filaments. Due to its high wear resistance and good mechanical properties (strength, toughness, layer adhesion), it is an all-rounder material that is suitable for most applications and 3D printers. This makes it by far the most frequently used igus filament. There are restrictions only in terms of the maximum permanent application temperature of 65°C and for highly dynamic applications.Furthermore, it is suitable for food contact due to the conformity according to EU 10/2011 and is therefore ideal in applications in the food and packaging industry.  


iglidur® PEP - for all shaft surfaces and materials 
iglidur® PEP consists of a combination of two plastic layers. Even threads, rust or scratches do not impair the permanently reliable function.

Self-lubricating filament iglidur i180 
Components made from the 3D printing material iglidur i180 can be used universally for all types of wear parts, such as plain bearings, gears and drive nuts, as this material has also been specifically developed for moving applications. The higher wear resistance and higher temperature resistance (100°C over the long term) extend the range of application, especially for more dynamic applications with higher surface speeds.

When to use it?

When an increased permanent application temperature of up to 100°C is required
For highly dynamic plain bearing applications


When not to use it?

If the application temperature is higher than 100°C in the long-term, or even higher wear resistance is required (→ iglidur J260)

Fire-retardant high-temperature filament, ideal for the railway industry
iglidur RW370 is an abrasion-resistant, high-temperature tribofilament which was specifically developed for use in railway vehicles. As such, its fire-retardant specifications conform to UL94-V0 and EN45545. In addition, it has the maximum mechanical strength of all tribofilaments and a long-term temperature resistance of 170 °C, which makes it the material of choice for high-temperature applications.

When to use it?

When the application requires high temperature resistance
When the mechanical strength of the other tribofilaments is not sufficient
When fire-retardant specifications are required

When not to use it?

When very high wear resistance at high-temperature load is required (→ iglidur A350)

Bearings of so-called tracking systems in photovoltaic systems defy particularly adverse environmental conditions. iglidur P UV was developed for this area of application. The special composition ensures high resistance to ultraviolet rays and ensures that components made of iglidur P UV function for a particularly long time and with the least possible loss of strength. 


iglidur® A160 | FDA and EU regulation-compliant for chemicals and food
iglidur® A160 is characterised by extreme media resistance at low costs. Tribologically optimised, the material can be used up to +90°C and also meets the conformity requirements of the food processing sector. The property profile is rounded off by the &#34;optical detectability&#34; often desired in the industry, i.e. the blue colour.

The iglidur i6-BLUE material, developed for laser sintering, is specifically intended for use as a worm wheel, and for food contact. The tests in the igus test laboratory showed a longer service life than for conventionally milled gears - e.g. POM - This significantly increases flexibility in the design of components, because the laser sintering process eliminates the need for tooling and therefore special parts can be manufactured efficiently with no minimum order quantity. igumid P190 is an extremely strong and stiff 3D printed filament due to the reinforcement with carbon fibre. It was specially developed as a partner material for iglidur i190 for the production of very strong and at the same time friction-optimised components in multi-material printing. Furthermore, it can be used for printing stable structural components. Thanks to the high strength and high rigidity, as well as its low density of 1.25g/cm³, igumid P190 is ideal for lightweight construction with low material requirements.

When to use it?

For structural components where high strength and stiffness are required
For special mounting brackets for energy chains
As a multi-material partner with iglidur i190, for the combination of a high-strength material (igumid P190) and a particularly durable plastic (iglidur i190)

When not to use it?

Selective laser sintering (SLS) material: iglidur i230
The iglidur i230 laser sintering powder stands out as another all-rounder material among the iglidur SLS materials. Unlike iglidur i3, however, it is designed for higher application temperatures and withstands long-term temperatures of up to 110 °C. Moreover, the material is 80 % more wear-resistant than PA12. Of all iglidur SLS materials, iglidur i230 offers the highest flexural strength and, in addtion, it has electrostatically dissipative (ESD) properties.
Good to know: iglidur i230 contains no PTFE and is therefore not affected by future PFAS regulations.

When to use it?

When a PFAS-free material is required
If the application temperature is above 80 °C in the long term and at a maximum of 110 °C
If components with high mechanical strength (also structural components) are required
If components with ESD properties are required up to 110 °C application temperature

When not to use it?

If components with higher wear resistance at max. 80 °C application temperature are required (→ iglidur i3)
If components with ESD properties up to 80 °C application temperature are required (→ iglidur i8-ESD or iglidur i9-ESD)

Flexible and wear-resistant filament - iglidur i190
iglidur i190 is characterised by high wear resistance, as the material is enriched with solid lubricants. It can be processed on regular 3D printers, but a closed 3D printer is recommended. Due to its high wear resistance and excellent mechanical specifications (strength, toughness, coating adhesion), it is an all-round material that is suitable for most applications and 3D printers. Of all igus tribofilaments, only iglidur RW370 has a higher strength than iglidur i190. It can also withstand a long-term application temperature of up to 90 °C (after tempering the component).

When to use it?

For all types of applications where low friction and high wear resistance are important
When higher strengths are required

When not to use it?

If the application temperature is higher than 90 °C in the long term (→ iglidur J260 or iglidur RW370)
For applications under water or with high humidity (→ iglidur i180)

There are restrictions in terms of the maximum permanent application temperature of 65°C and for highly dynamic applications.
