Compact rotary table bearing for 360° camera shots

In product photography, turntables enable automated multi-angle shots. This design also accommodates irregular or narrow items, like smartphones or skates, by securing them between two synchronized turntables. The upper turntable is height-adjustable via two front-mounted electric lifting columns, keeping the rear area clear for minimal post-processing. Since these columns support limited weight, the rotary unit must remain lightweight. Off-center mounting creates uneven loads, making simple plain bearings insufficient. For the rotary discs, a compact, lightweight solution with high load capacity and low speed was required.

The iglide® slewing ring bearing with a toothed outer ring is an ideal choice for this application. It is significantly lighter and more affordable than traditional rolling bearings while still providing high load capacity in all directions. The integrated external gearing allows direct drive via a stepper motor with a gearbox. A built-in reduction ratio (i=3) enables a smaller, more cost-effective motor, further reducing weight.
